Summer at Štrbské Pleso
Summer in the Tatra National Park is full of opportunities to relax and have fun. Escape the stress of your everyday life and leave everything to us. The only thing you need to do is decide which attraction or event you want to visit first. Or, go on a hike or for leisurely stroll around the lake.
Seasonal re-opening of hiking trails
Hiking trails are available to visitors from 15 June to 1 November. However, it does not mean you have to forget all about hiking at the time of the winter closure. The trails that are closed from 1 November to 15 June are the ones in higher altitudes. Also the crossings between saddles and peaks are affected. All paths leading to chalets are open all year around, with the exception of Chata pod Rysmi.

Štrbské Pleso is part of the Tatra National Park – TANAP. Visitors have to follow Visitor Code of Conduct.
The most important rule is to make sure you behave in a way that does not damage or kill plants and animals, or their living environment, including littering in the national park.
You are not allowed to do the following
- Damage, destroy, pick, dig out and collect protected plants
- Disturb, kill, harm, catch and move protected animals
- Destroy and pick protected minerals and fossils
- Damage and kill trees

Hiking with dogs
Feel free to take your dog wherever you want in the national park. However, in the 4th and 5th protection zone, your dog must be on a leash and have a muzzle on at all time, as indicated in TANAP’s Visitor Code of Conduct.
At the same time, visitors must follow all rules of the Visitor Code of Conduct and the Law on Nature and Landscape Protection regarding hikers – for example, hiking only on waymarked trails and in the time outside of the seasonal closure, respecting other limitations arising from these provisions.
Exhilarating ride on local rack railway
The local rack railway is well known and very popular. It has been taking passengers from Tatranská Štrba to Štrbské Pleso and back since 1896. Even though the 5 km journey lasts only about 15 minutes, it is an unforgettable experience sure to put happy smiles on your or your children’s faces.
